About Us

Donna Olah-Reiken founded Preferred Small Business Solutions (PSBS) to focus on what she likes best about business: fostering the growth and productivity of small companies. Having held positions at the Securities Industry Automation Corporation (SIAC), the NYC Parks Department, and Data Study, among others, she decided to apply her experience with project management, information systems, and financial analysis to new and established small businesses. She grew up working in her family's small retail business on Long Island, and went on to earn a BA in finance from SUNY Binghamton, and an MBA in information systems from Pace University. She is also a certified Advanced QuickBooks Pro advisor.

As a small business consultant, Donna's passion is launching – and re-launching – back-office functions, helping with business plans, and referring owners to other professionals for their business needs. She has worked with budgets of up to $300 million, and will work with new and established businesses at every stage of development, from conception to launch to expansion. Based in New Jersey, Preferred Small Business Solutions works with clients around the country; Donna and her team are available to meet in person with clients in the Tri-State area.

Alissa Modica joined Preferred Small Business Solutions as a bookkeeper and Quickbooks-certified ProAdvisor in 2013. Prior to that time, she was a freelance bookkeeper for four years after obtaining her Quickbooks user certification. A career in bookkeeping provided the flexibility Alissa needed to raise her young children and combined her financial background and mathematical aptitude with her desire to work closely with clients.

Alissa's most recent corporate experience dates back to 2001 where she served as Director of Global Technology at CIBC World Markets in New York City. At CIBC, Alissa managed a group of analysts responsible for allocating all of the firm's expenses back to the business lines. Prior to her employment at CIBC, Alissa was an analyst in the Communications Financial Services Division of PaineWebber.

She credits her former boss/mentor at PaineWebber for giving her the opportunity for a much-wanted career change by hiring her for an analyst position despite no appropriate work experience and a B.A. in an unrelated field.

Alissa's strong work ethic, eagerness to learn and natural mathematical ability enabled her to move quickly up the corporate ladder and establish herself as a skilled manager and analyst. She uses those same skills and traits to provide her bookkeeping clients with accounting and reporting services ranging from cash flow management to forensic accounting.
